Shelter House Construction (March - June, 2010)

June 26 - Volunteer lunch

June 16 - Deck, pavers, concrete

June 8 - Mantelpiece and bench finishing in Earl Brandt's shop, kitchen entryway nearing completion, grout being applied to floor tile

June 2 - Laying bricks, tiling, constructing roof over church kitchen entry, starting mantelpiece

May 21 - Doors being glued.  Trim being planed, sanded, varnished.  Walls plastered.  Gas stove in.

May 9 - Shingling underway

May 3 - Roof panels installed, fascia and soffits in progress

April 22 - Roof boards installed, electrical work

April 18 - Walls and timber roof supports

April 8 - Preparation for pouring of concrete -- installation of plastic sheeting, styrofoam, wire grid, hot water tubing

April 5 - Foundation and fill

March 25, 26 - Forms and footings

March 24- Site preparation begins at the church with the digging of new signpost holes, the removal of the kitchen steps, and grading of the shelter house site.

March 10 - Shelter house construction begins at the Herrling Farm with the sanding and staining of the large imposing rough-cut pine timbers obtained from Northern Illinois and Northern Wisconsin (near Mercer).  The timbers are also being cut to length and end-angled so that when transported to the church they will be ready to assemble.
